Hardware:
To add new hardware see the tutorial on
adding new
hardware.
With windows XP you can easily add hardware like
printers, cameras, scanners, MP3 players and
many other assorted external devices with ease.
When you want to upgrade or maintain the inside
of your computer you are capable of causing
bigger problems than when you started, so if you
do not feel comfortable with adding new hardware
bring it to your local pc repair shop for a
professional installation.
On the other hand if you are good with
electronics and enjoy learning new things this
if for you. Luckily adding new hardware is not
that difficult and with any new hardware
that you purchase it will come with a very
detailed instruction manual. Usually simple to
follow images that will guide you every step of
the way are included.
For almost every hardware located in your pc
that does not connect directly into your
motherboard you can find two basic cords that
you need to know. The first cord is the power
cable (see the image
below)

This cord will plug into every devise including
3 1/2 floppy drive, cd, dvd drive, and so on.
The next object to know is the data cable. This
is a ribbon cable that is easy to maneuver. This
cord will attach to your cd, dvd, hard drive or
other device and is plugged directly into the
motherboard on your pc. A slightly smaller data
cable will connect to your floppy drive. The
best way to remember what side to plug in is to
always have the side with the red line
(lead edge) closest
to the power cord.

Also a helpful tip is to add
new hardware to your computer on a hard flat
surface. If you try making the install on
carpeting you could create static electricity
and shock one of the parts inside you computer. |
