Toolbar Invasion:
There are many annoying little programs that you can somehow pick up when surfing the net. Among these are certain types of programs that attach themselves to your browser possibly as a so-called "enhancement". Many times they are packaged with a free download and install themselves along with the downloaded software.
The programs in question many times take the shape of little search "helper" bars nestled in the toolbar of your internet browser. Unfortunately, they usually don't stop there.
These programs do things like changing your homepage and other settings. They spy on what you're doing and may cause annoying ads to popup every once in awhile directly related to your surfing habits(Read Stupid Popups). The scariest part about all of this is that they can totally compromise your privacy and security. Read Detecting Spyware. This includes when you shop online and any other data you may access.
Getting rid of these programs can be a major pain in the neck. Some can be uninstalled through add remove programs in Windows control panel. I would never leave it at just that though. It is always a good idea to run a good spyware scanner and a good virus scanner on your PC to make sure these programs are good and gone. If you don't have an anti-spyware program or a good anti-virus program check out the software section.
